Safeguarding

We take our safeguarding procedures very seriously as a club that provides services and classes to young persons and adults at risk*. This page is NOT our safeguarding policy, it serves to introduce you to our safeguarding mechanisms and acts as our safeguarding statement.

(*On this page and the safeguarding policy, ‘child’ or ‘young person’ refers to anyone under 18. ‘Adult at risk’ should be read as someone over 18 more vulnerable to abuse due to social, medical or other circumstances. ‘Parents’ should be read as a parent or carer with the responsibility of a child or vulnerable adult.)

Our Safeguarding Procedures

SBG NORTH TYNESIDE takes its safeguarding procedures very seriously. Whilst this document aims to brief you to our safeguarding procedures, it is not a substitute for our Safeguarding Policy and other related articles.

We have a full safeguarding policy in place, and all instructors and coaches are DBS checked to an enhanced level, with Eddie Ng as our safeguarding lead. We recognise our duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults. We are committed to ensuring best practices in light of statutory responsibilities, government guidance, and BMABA requirements.

All instructors and coaches hold a relevant safeguarding qualification that helps them identify the need for proper safeguarding protocols and deal with any concerns in an efficient and effective manner.

If you are interested in finding out more, read through our Safeguarding Policy and associated guidelines and raise any questions with our safeguarding lead. You may contact us at info@sbgnorth.co.uk to request a copy of our Safeguarding Policy at any time.

What We Will Do

  • Promote and prioritise the well-being and safety of at-risk young people and adults.

  • Value, listen to and respect vulnerable persons.

  • Ensure our safeguarding procedures are robust and reflect best practices.

  • Provide suitable staff training, ensuring they are educated on and know how best to respond to any safeguarding concerns.

  • Take appropriate action in case of a safeguarding concern or incident, and support all affected parties.

  • Keep accurate and confidential records of all concerns.

  • Maintain high levels of data protection in line with legislation; more information is available from the Information Commissioners Office.

  • Prevent the employment of unsuitable individuals by using our “Safe Recruitment Policy” and performing all necessary checks on applicants.

  • Appoint a safeguarding lead to be responsible for safeguarding within the club.

  • Make all information regarding safeguarding readily available.

Ensure vulnerable people and parents know where to go if they need help.

All procedures are mandatory for staff and failure to comply with the standards will be grounds for dismissal and potentially further action if there is a concern.

We will review all relevant policies annually to ensure that we are:

  • Following any potential changes to legislation.

  • As required by the local safeguarding partnership, UK sport, and BMABA.

  • Responding to any concerns about the weakness of our policy or procedures.
